Laboratorios Tecnológicos de Levante (LTL) has become the first Laboratory in Spain accredited by ENAC in the detection of Salmonella enteritidis and Typhimurium by using the PCR-rt technique in meat
The 27 of October of 2011 the Regulation 1086/2011 was published, modifying the Regulation 2160/2003 and the Regulation 2073/2005 about microbiological standards. As far as Salmonella in fresh poultry meat is concerned, the absence of Salmonella Enteritidis and Typhimurium serotypes, in 25g of fresh meat, was established as criteria of food security.
Recent researches show that over the 80% of food poisoning cases are due to the serovar Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica, Enteritidis and Typhimurium serotypes, being for this reason the main public health concern.
With this background, Laboratorios Tecnológicos de Levante (LTL) as a laboratory accredited by ENAC in agreement with the rule UNE EN ISO/IEC 17025, offers to its customers the identification of the serotypes Enteritidis and Typhimurium of Salmonella in meat products.
The analytical procedure accredited by ENAC consists on the in real time multiplex PCR technology using specific fluorescent probes for the Enteritidis and Typhimurium serotypes. The application of this biology molecular technique it has brought great advantages over conventional techniques, giving results with more promptness (24 hours), sensitivity and specifity, as well as more reduced costs.
